KDHX says
From his early days of rocking parties in the rinks and the parks to his career in radio and film, Ronald Butts aka DJ G-Wiz is a true STL legend on the turntables and behind the camera.
Specializing in mixing 1960s - 90s Soul, R&B, Hip-Hop, Disco and Pop music/videos, Wiz has been making crowds move since 1978. During the late 80s, G-Wiz started Wiz-A-Tron Records and put out a string of Hip-Hop releases mostly from St. Louis-based artists well into the 90s. In 1989, along with Russ Girard, Wiz began “African Alert”, a groundbreaking radio show featuring afrocentric, socially aware Hip-Hop music Friday nights on KDHX. In the 90s, the program would have a few reincarnations including “Street Vibes” and “The Science” that would serve as launch pads for DJs and future radio stars such as DJ Alejan, (Da Fly) D-Ex and Staci Static. After a long hiatus from KDHX, Wiz came back to the station in 2006 to start a new Monday night show with Nappy DJ Needles called “The Remedy.” This program (much like Street Vibes and The Science) featured classic and current Hip-Hop and aired on the station til 2008. Needles’ current show “Rawthentic” was birthed from “The Remedy.”
