Heldenbar

Run by a coop for no profit, Wednesdays-only Heldenbar is an oasis of cutely scruffy youth-oriented bar culture in an obsessively groomed city. Somewhere between a mixed alternative bar and an arty gay club night that wouldn’t look out of place in Berlin, the weekly night takes over the venue Provitreff on the edge of the upcoming cultural quarter of Zurich West. A knockabout music policy mashes up everything from disco to minimal, from jazz to wonky with suitably leftfield live music performances a regular fixture. Reasonable drinks prices, table football and a terrace overlooking the river Limmat are further attractions, but the night’s biggest asset is the exuberant, loyal crowd who pack the place to the rafters every week. A feisty, funky and forward-looking new frontier for Swiss gay nightlife.
