Cruise into Chinese New Year at Zurich Airport

The best place to celebrate the colourful and lively festival of Chinese New Year is, of course, China. But don’t worry if you can’t quite find the time for the 10,000-mile roundtrip to Beijing and back, as Zurich Airport is giving visitors a taste of the Orient for six weeks to celebrate Chinese New Year and welcome in the Year of the Pig.

Make your way through a mini-oasis of bamboo and lanterns throughout the airport, and swot-up on Chinese history, culture and customs from exhibitions and information. 

The exotic vibes continue until February 24, and anyone at the airport on February 10 will be lucky enough to witness the dragon dance. This lively traditional Chinese ritual dates back to the Han Dynasty over 2,000 years ago, with the dragon itself representing wealth and wisdom.

Another traditional ritual known as ‘hongbao’ will be taking place the same weekend, February 9-10. This involves the giving of red envelopes as gifts, and some lucky visitors to the airport will even get the chance to open an envelope and reap the fortuitous reward inside...
