Arriving fresh from a ten-year co-directorship of the adventurous Avignon theatre festival in France, Vidy director Vincent Baudriller has taken the local culture scene by storm. As Director of the iconic Max Bill designed theatre, his ambitious programme draws the stars of contemporary theatre, dance and music: Matthias Langhoff, Romeo Castelluci, Christoph Marthaler, Boris Chamatz, Tino Seghal, to name only a few. Arm in arm with the other local scenes and stages, he aims to make Lausanne a beacon for the performing arts at the heart of Europe.
Because of the accent on performance, and not just text theatre, there is invariably a show to be seen by non French-speaking audiences every night on one of the four stages of Vidy.
And why not make an entire evening of it: the Kantine serves light home-made food in a bright and welcoming café environment, with a patio that gives onto the lake on fine weather evenings.
