Cabins are usually on the small side. Tiny homes that use space cleverly to create a cosy hideout for weekends away. Even the luxe ones that manage to squeeze a dishwasher are petite. Not Camelot. This cabin has kingdom-esque proportions. It’s everything you love about cabin retreats but on a supersize scale.
The newest addition to The Orchard (already home to two treehouses and one smaller cabin) sleeps six adults in three doubles, so you can escape real life with a whole group of pals. It also makes room for more entertainment than you might be expecting. Arriving through double doors, your new, timber kingdom stretches out in front of you, trunks growing up through the decking, all angled towards uninterrupted views of the horizon across the watery Somerset levels.
There’s the main cabin itself, which is rustic chic. It gives log cabin but with fancy appliances, underfloor heating, rainfall showers, a built-in coffee machine, an automated projector for movie nights and an eco log burner for cosy vibes.
Outside, lit by festoon lights, your western territories are home to a BBQ, pizza oven, ice machine and beer (maybe cider, seeing as we’re in Somerset) fridge in an undercover alfresco eating area. To the east, a fire pit, multiple seating areas and one of Camelot’s standout offerings: a square, outdoor copper roll top bath (with jets) that has room for all six of you.
For tropical feels even if it’s a drizzly day in February, explore a little further and you’ll find a double secluded outdoor shower tucked away amongst ferns. Further still, is your private sauna which looks out over your lands and the fields beyond. Travel to the far corner of your realm to find a private gym and a space for yoga or pre-booked massages, as well as an indoor sunken whirlpool bath that, thanks to floor to ceiling windows, also has epic countryside views. Though there’s also a telly, if you’ve had your fill of gazing at greenery.
Basically, Camelot is big, bougie and begging for you to have a good time. It’s what would happen if a cosy cabin break and a spa day threw a house party.
Price: From £499 a night.
Neighbourhood: Camelot is rural - we only saw sheep during our stay - in the hamlet of Fenny Castle, on the edge of the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels. But you’re actually really close to historic Wells (pub quiz trivia: the UK’s smallest city) which has a pretty centre and cathedral, and Glastonbury (for epic Tor views, the Abbey, the Chalice Well Gardens and shops that’ll satisfy your hippie side), as well as Somerset attractions like Wookey Hole caves and Cheddar Gorge.
Nearby: Fenny Castle Vineyard, which produces craft cider and English sparkling wine, is a short walk away and offers vineyard tours and tastings. Sip a pint of local cider on The Sheppey’s outdoor terrace. There’s good food and live music too. The pub is about an hour’s walk or a 15-minute bike ride away. The (pleasingly flat) Somerset Levels can easily be explored by bike. The cabin comes with six you can borrow.
Time Out Tip: If you can bear an early wake up call when you’re away, get up when the birds do. The sun rises directly in front of the cabin’s enormous windows. It’s a dreamy view with an early morning cup of Wogan coffee.
