The fact that the Scottish Highlands are a place of jaw-dropping natural beauty is no big secret. This spectacular British wilderness – with its stunning mirror lochs, breathtaking limestone cliffs and fairytale castles – is regularly named one of the most beautiful places in the world, and has been named one of the top spots to travel to in 2026

If you’re thinking of planning a trip to the region, whether it’s for a hike over rolling hills or an epic road trip to taste your way across the best foodie spots along its craggy terrain, here’s news of an extra pitstop for your journey.

One of the UK’s most northerly pubs has reopened after a major revamp. Tongue Hotel, located in the eponymous coastal village in northwest Highland, has unveiled the new look of its Brass Tap bar.

The interior of the boozer has been transformed and an outdoor terrace has been added, offering incredible views across the Kyle of Tongue towards the historic Castle Varrich, Ben Loyal and Ben Hope.

The hotel dates back to the mid-1800s and began life as a hunting lodge for the Duke of Sutherland. The current drinking den takes its name from an original brass water tap which can still be found within the bar.

As for what we can expect from the glow-up, the Brass Tap will now be open seven days a week and will be serving food daily. In the evenings the focus will be on the drinks. Plus, there’ll be live music every last Friday of the month and we’ve been told to expect a growing programme of events from the venue.

Highland Coast Hotels, which owns the property, has said it wants the pub to cater both to travellers exploring the North Coast 500, one of the UK’s most celebrated road trips, and locals alike.

‘Whether visiting for a quick drink, a relaxed meal or an evening of live music, The Brass Tap is designed to encourage travellers to pause longer, stay overnight and explore the surrounding area,’ said managing director Kenny McMillan. ‘From coastal walks and historic landmarks to wildlife and local culture, Tongue continues to establish itself as one of the most rewarding stops on the North Coast 500.’

Did you see that a resort in one of the UK’s greatest regions for nature is getting two new ziplines?

Plus: the greatest beer in the UK has just been crowned for 2026.
