The globe-trotting VR attraction is heading to The NEC Campus in Birmingham for a 12-week run starting on June 19

Since its debut in 2022, ‘Tutankhamun: The Immersive Exhibition’ has been delighting historians and pharaoh fanatics all over the world. The globe-trotting attraction has done stints in places as far ranging as Madrid, Cairo, Sao Paulo and London, and is currently on show in Brussels.
This summer it’ll be returning to the UK, and when it does, Brummy Egyptologists will finally get their time in the tomb.
From June 19, The VR-enhanced exhibition devoted to the eponymous boy king of the eighteenth dynasty is heading to Birmingham’s NEC Campus.
As with previous iterations, it will be an 85-minute immersive journey through six galleries that delve into the fascinating details of what life was like in ancient Egypt.
Set across 2,000 square metres, the exhibition starts with an interactive walkway of artifacts and replicas from the time. From there, you’ll pass through a video room which explains the background on what Egyptian civilisation was actually like and tells the story of how Tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered. A recorded interview of Howard Carter, the eccentric British archaeologist who located the tomb in 1922, also pops up along the way.
VR features include a 30-minute immersive film themed around Egyptian myths of creation and death, a film where you can experience life as Tutankhamun himself, newly woken up in the afterlife and a holographic film about mummification.
If 8-metre-high, 360-degree projections and the chance to potter around the big man’s tomb via immersive virtual reality weren’t enough, there’s also an AI photobooth which will transform you into an ancient Egyptian.
‘Tutankhamun: The Immersive Exhibition’ opens at The NEC Campus, Birmingham on June 19 for a limited 12-week run. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday April 21, priced from £22 for adults and from £15.50 for children, but you can join the waitlist here.
