Women know the faff that comes with being on a night out and figuring out a safe way home. Even taxis can come with their own dangers. Which is why a Welsh entrepreneur has decided to come up with an app that allows women to choose female drivers.

Founder and CEO Ben Cole-Edwards said his mum and aunt had wanted a service that caters to women, and now he has made it a reality.

RideSafe allows users to choose their preference of male or female driver, request a selfie of the driver and the car (so riders know who to look for) and a one-time password to make sure the right vehicle is identified.

It also has features that are common on other rider apps including real-time tracking, reviews, and a call and messaging service.

As for the driver, they won’t see that a rider is looking for a specific gender, as the app will say there are ‘no available riders’ on the app.

Cole-Edwards said: ‘The idea is just to expand as fast as I can and as far as I can. Because even if I get one driver in every county, if that can help one woman in every county then that would be brilliant.’

RideSafe goes live on Wednesday December 14 with plans to roll out globally.
