Making plans in anticipation of the January blues? We’ve got the perfect thing. Next month, a mesmerising multi-coloured light and sound show is coming to a major UK city, and will undoubtedly help to lift your spirits.
Inspired by Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Enlightenment by EONARIUM has been stopping by some of the world’s most beautiful buildings, from Brisbane’s St Stephen's Cathedral to Madrid’s Comunidad Evangélica de Habla Aleman. Here in the UK, the vibrant show has already shown at Leeds City Museum, St George’s Hall of Liverpool and the Merchant’s House in Glasgow. Now, it’s Edinburgh’s turn to experience the multi-sensory spectacle. Enlightenment by EONARIUM will be showing at the University of Edinburgh’s historic McEwan Hall from January 31.
Created by Zurich-based artist collective Projektil, the experience lasts around half an hour and is divided into spring, summer, autumn and winter, with spectacular visuals projected across the hall’s interior. Projektil has used video mapping technology in order to full every nook and cranny of McEwan Hall with its kaleidoscopic illuminations. All visitors have to do is get comfortable in one of the chairs or bean bags laid out across the hall and gaze up.
Vivaldi’s original compositions have been adapted especially for immersive experience, their classical elements blended with a ‘contemporary touch’. The final section of the display introduces the spiritual concepts of ‘samsara’, an idea borrowed from Hindu, Buddhist and Jain cultures that describes the endless cycle of rebirth and suffering, and ‘nirvana’, the attainment of ultimate enlightenment and liberation from samsara.
Tickets for Enlightenment by EONARIUM in Edinburgh cost £10.90 for adults, £7.90 for kids and £9.90 for students and seniors. You can book a slot here.
