Beyoncé and Jay-Z might have abandoned their plans to swap the US for the Cotswolds, but you could still live the A-list dream – at least for a couple of nights. That’s because Alcoves, two dreamy new artist-designed cabins, is now taking bookings in the area.

Located close to the village of Broadway, the cabins are close to the Cotswold Way Walking Trail and – deliciously – the Mount Inn pub. Founded by Tom and Emma Evetts, Alcoves is based on a working farm, which the former’s father still tends. Once there, you’ll encounter the locals: two retired racehorses named Eddie and AK, as well as Woody the Donkey and Mungo the Cob.

But don’t worry: no-one’s expecting you to muck in. Actually, what they’re really hoping you’ll do is let off some steam in the sauna cabin that’s also available onsite. If you really must get active, though, there’s a tennis court at Alcoves, too.

Each cabin has its own outdoor sunken bathtub, which is covered by a canopy – so you can literally soak up the views of the rolling hills outside. And there’s a lot to see, given that Tom has created a wildflower garden bank between the cabins and the field, which is good for your eyes and the habitat.

The open-plan cabins themselves are clad in reclaimed timber and equipped with Moccamaster drip coffee machines from Cheltenham’s Ritual Coffee Roasters. If that doesn’t get you going for a stomp around the Wolds, we don’t know what will.

You won’t need to use that energy to make small talk with your neighbours in the next cabin, though – unless you really want to – as the two abodes are set 100 metres apart. If you do find yourself chatting to your fellow visitors, however, you’d be well-advised to wax lyrical about the oil paintings that Tom has created and placed inside each cabin.

‘Painting entirely from life allows the impressions to occur on canvas with greater depth,’ he says of his work. ‘It’s about capturing something real and immediate and that same philosophy has shaped Alcoves as a place to pause, observe and reconnect.’

We could all do with a bit of that in today’s always-on world. As an added bonus, you might well book into Alcoves to find Bey and Jay staying in the cabin next door as they scope out another gaff. Find out more and book on the Alcoves website.
