Cuthbert the Caterpillar fans (we know you’re out there), listen up! After officially taking the crown as Britain’s cheapest supermarket of 2024, Aldi has promised 10 brand new stores for the UK over the next three months.

Newcastle, Sheffield, north Wales and west London are among the areas being treated to a brand spanking new Aldi store this summer, with each outlet expected to generate around 40 new jobs.

These openings are part of the supermarket’s mission to open a total of 40 new stores this year and reach its long-term target of 1,500 UK branches. At the end of last year, Aldi announced that it would be investing around £650 million in 2025 to achieve those goals.

Jonathan Neale, Aldi UK’s managing director of national real estate, said: ‘At Aldi, our goal is to ensure everyone has access to high-quality food at unbeatable prices, and we’re committed to achieving that with our ambitious store opening plans.

‘We’re targeting 40 new store openings in 2025, while many of our current stores will also be getting a refresh to enhance the customer experience, meaning we can consistently offer the best value for money to even more shoppers across the UK.’

It’s not confirmed exactly when each new store will launch, but Aldi says it will be over the next 14 weeks. A further 30 existing stores, including Chelmsford, Darlington, Inverness, Glastonbury, Norwich and Southampton, will all get upgrades over the coming months, too.
