The Sussex spot ranks alongside places in Mexico, South Korea, Canada and Italy in Expedia’s ‘Unpack ’27: The Trends in Travel’ report

What does a tiny city in the depths of southeast England have in common with a winery-filled region of Canada, a historic Japanese prefecture and a serene island in Mexico? According to Expedia Group, they’re all among the top 10 trending holiday destinations for 2027.
The quaint Sussex city of Chichester ranked 10th in the group’s ‘Unpack ’27: The Trends in Travel’, a report that digs into emerging travel habits and the places around the world that are gaining attention among tourists. The report looked into insights from a survey of 26,000 travellers, first-party data and ‘social listening’. The research found that searches for Chichester have increased by 30 percent compared to last year.
What’s so great about Chichester, you ask? First and foremost, it’s got a fascinating history. The city has been home to Roman and Anglo-Saxon settlements, and was an important market town during the Norman period. There’s evidence of that past throughout Chichester’s cobbled streets, from the Roman city walls and the mosaic-filled Fishbourne Roman Palace to the 950-year-old cathedral and the Grade I-listed 525-year-old Chichester Cross.
Elsewhere, there’s the Pallant House Gallery, which houses an incredible collection of 20th-century art featuring the likes of Hepworth, Freud and Auerbach. A short drive out of the city centre will take you to South Downs National Park or the sandy West Wittering beach. Ancient history, modern art and a walk along the coast all in one? Sign us up.
Expedia’s Unpack ’27 also included Perugia in Italy, Hyogo in Japan and Niagara-on-the-Lake in Canada. You can read more about the full ranking.
