Winter is coming and that means many, many exciting things, from festive markets to New Year celebrations. But chillier climes also means the return of another thing: ski season. And for ski and snowboard enthusiasts heading for the French Alps, now there’s a new, greener, comfier way of getting there.
Eurostar is launching a brand-new train service this winter season between London and the French Alps. Called Eurostar Snow, it’ll involve a connection at Lille and then go on to stop at several top French ski resorts. Included along the route are Chambéry, Albertville, Moutiers and Aime-La Plagne, as well as the final destination Bourg-Saint-Maurice.
The service will start on December 16 and operate for eight weekends throughout the ski season. The outbound train leaves London at 9.01am and arrives at Bourg-Saint-Maurice at 6.20pm, while the return train departs at 8.26am and arrives at St. Pancras International at 4pm.
Which sure seems like a long time on trains but, when you think about it, the total journey time isn’t much longer (if longer at all) than flying to the Alps. Plus, Eurostar is more convenient – and much, much better for the planet.
One-way tickets for Eurostar Snow start at £99, though ticket prices during peak season (December 16 to January 7) will cost at least £149. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (August 31) at 9am and you can find out more on the Eurostar website here.
