Brightonians – it’s finally time. Gone are the days of trekking to huge warehouses in Southampton or East Croydon for your Billy bookcase or Vestroy mattress. Brighton is getting a brand new IKEA store slap-bang in the city centre this week.

The new shop is opening in Churchill Square Shopping Centre at 10am on Thursday, August 14. Occupying the unit that was once Debenhams, it spans 6,695 square metres across two storeys. It’s the latest of the brand’s more compact high street shops, and it’ll look slightly different to other IKEA stores that you’ve stepped foot in.

On the first floor, you’ll find the showrooms, which have been co-created with Brighton locals to ‘reflect life at home in the city’. Then, on the ground floor there are 2,600 items that you can buy direct from the store, plus IKEA’s full 12,000 collection is available to order for home delivery or collection. You’ll also find a secondhand section full of preloved furnishings and, of course, the Swedish Deli and Swedish Food Market, where you can get your mitts on those beloved meatballs.

Karina Gilpin, Market Manager at IKEA Brighton, said: ‘IKEA Brighton is designed with the city at its heart, and we are so excited to welcome the first customers into our new home in two days’ time.

‘Our city centre location in Churchill Square means customers can conveniently drop in while out and about, to seek inspiration for their homes, browse our range, access our expert planning advice, or enjoy our delicious meatballs or plantballs. We can’t wait to get started.’

Wait – there’s more. The first 100 people to the new store who are members of IKEA Family (you can join for free) will be treated to a gift card that could be anything from £1 and £1,000. Once launched, you can shop at the shiny new IKEA from 10am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 5pm on Sundays.
