Fun fact: there are over 2,600 Greggs in the UK. That’s a lot of sausage rolls – and yet somehow, still not enough. There remain plenty of Greggs-less places, where punters are forced to go without a streak bake or a yum yum, but thankfully, that might not remain the case for much longer thanks to a new type of Greggs outpost.
Greggs has announced that it plans to open up brand new ‘Bitesize Greggs’ stores. These will be designed to fit into places like train stations and retail parks which might not have enough space for the full bakeries, but where the easy to-go food would still be a welcome option.
This comes after the chain shut more than 50 stores this year after profits fell in the first half of the year. Don’t fear though, this is nothing serious – 87 total stores were opened or relocated meaning it’s still been a net positive year for the company. A spokesperson explained: ‘After a challenging start to 2025, we remain clear on the strategic opportunities that lie ahead’. Those opportunities begin with the Bitesize shop openings slated for later this year.
The micro-stores will have a limited selection of foods on offer, but will still sell ‘all of our iconic products’. We don’t know exactly what will be on offer yet, but we suspect sausage rolls will make the cut. The aim is to give customers a super easy way to access their faves which requires small retail spaces which can fit anywhere. We also don’t know exactly where the first of these branches will be yet, but we’ll update you as soon as we get a full list.
If that’s not convenient enough for you, Greggs is partnering with Tesco to bring shoppers ‘Bake at Home’ goods from this September. You’ll be able to enjoy all the classic pastries and snacks freshly cooked from the comfort of your home when the line launches next month.
