Operation Golden Orb, the closely guarded plan for King Charles’s coronation, has been set in motion. The once-in-a-generation event will be taking place across the weekend of May 6 and 7, with a bank holiday on Monday May 8.

Besides the symbolic religious service and two grand processions there will also be a star-studded coronation concert held on the grounds of Windsor Castle. It’s not yet known who will make an appearance, but if previous royal events are anything to go by, we can expect some pretty big names.

The concert will be broadcast by the BBC and available to watch across the globe. Unlike the rest of the weekend’s festivities, which will have extremely exclusive guest lists, the concert will be attended by select members of the public. And it could be you. Here’s how you could get your hands on tickets.

When is the coronation concert?

The concert will be on Sunday May 7.

How can I get free tickets?

Okay, now for the important stuff. There are 10,000 free tickets available for the show and they will be given away in pairs. For a chance to be there IRL, members of the public are invited to enter a ballot, open now until February 28.

You’ll be relieved to know that the tickets won’t be first come first served. After the ballot closes at the end of the month, 5,000 lucky recipients will be chosen at random. Winners will then be notified and given all the necessary information in the middle of April.

The ballot is open to residents across the UK. Applicants have to be over 18 but will be allowed to bring a guest aged 11 or over.
