The latest part of Lidl’s multi-million pound plan to expand its presence in Britain will see 19 stores open in eight weeks

Bargain hunters, we have good news: Lidl has just announced expansion plans in the UK, with 19 new supermarkets set to open across the country over the next two months.
The stores will all be in England, ranging all the way from Yorkshire to Dorset. The plan is to have them all ready to open within the next eight weeks, which equates to roughly one store launching every two days – although no exact opening dates have been revealed yet.
On opening days, Lidl has promised that customers will be able to sample free food and earn some prizes if they pay the shop a visit.
This comes after the company opened its 1,000th British location last year, and embarked on a £43 million effort to upgrade existing locations across the country. Those renovations, which include improving tills, adding more freezer space, and broadening product ranges, have been ongoing for the past year. During that time the odd location has popped up here and there, but this is the largest number of new branches that the brand has announced in some time.
A spokesperson for the budget grocer said that it is ‘starting the new year as we mean to go on – with a major investment’. They added that ‘with this push, we're set on winning more shoppers across the nation and claiming an even bigger share of the market’.
Lidl is now the sixth largest supermarket chain in the UK, but it is not the only one currently expanding. Marks & Spencer has also been adding a bunch of fresh locations to its roster, including shiny new flagship stores and overhauled food halls. Lidl’s competitor Aldi launched 16 new shops across Scotland and England in late 2025.
