Lloyds Banking Group also includes Halifax and the Bank of Scotland – but no jobs are to be cut, despite the branch closures

Everything is digital these days. You talk to your friends on your phone, you work on your laptop, and you probably do everything related to money through an app.
It’s hard to imagine now, but there was a time before mobile banking or ATMs when, if you wanted to add or withdraw from your savings, you had to go in person and ask someone. Those days are long past, resulting in the closure of many physical banks, from Natwest (in recent weeks) to Virgin.
Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) is the latest to bid goodbye to a bunch of its branches, announcing this week that it will shut 136 locations by March 2026. This will include 61 Lloyds Banks, 61 Halifaxes, and 14 Banks of Scotland, the latter two being owned by the LBG parent company.
Despite the closures, no jobs are expected to be cut as the group have already said that anyone currently working in one of the affected branches will be offered a different role within the organisation. Lloyds says the closures are because people’s habits have shifted in favour of digital banking.
A spokesperson for Lloyds said that; ‘Over 20 million customers are using our apps for on–demand access to their money… Alongside our apps, customers can also use telephone banking, visit a community banker or use any Halifax, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland branch, giving access to many more branches.’
And don’t worry if you struggle with navigating tech. These closures aren’t beginning until May, giving you time to head into your local branch and get a tutorial from a member of staff, or find out where your next–nearest bank will be.
On top of that, as explained by Lloyds: ‘Customers can also do their everyday banking at over 11,000 branches of the Post Office or in a Banking Hub.’ So you won’t be cut off from your cash, no matter what happens.
Here is the full list of Lloyds, Halifax, and Banks of Scotland that will be closing over the next year and a bit.
