Mancs is due to get a brand-spanking new ice rink that, once finished, will be one of the UK’s biggest ice-skating venues.

The three-acre TraffordCity Ice Arena will be operated by Planet Ice and apparently be a multi-use space featuring a ‘stylish’ family dining restaurant and a high-end sports bar. The deal has been agreed with Peel Waters, the company in charge of regeneration in the area.

The rink is the latest in a collection of new leisure facilities announced for Manchester’s TraffordCity. A £75 million inland surf resort is currently in the works, as well as a massive wellness and water resort with saunas, lagoons, slides and botanical gardens that is on track to open in 2025.

And all that’s on top of the experiences already on offer at the site, which include skiing, snowboarding, rock-climbing, golf and indoor skydiving.

More details on the ice arena will be confirmed closer to when a planning submission is submitted to Trafford Council. Once work starts, it’s estimated that the rink will take up to 15 months to build.

James Whittaker, executive director at Peel Waters said: ‘Peel Waters is extremely pleased to have secured another brilliant attraction to TraffordCity. Planet Ice will be a huge success in TraffordCity and together with the existing and proposed diverse mix of offerings, we believe TraffordCity will be the UK’s best retail and leisure destination.’

If you’re after more UK-based thrills, there’s plenty coming our way. By the end of this year, Edinburgh will be home to Europe’s biggest inland surfing resort and work will have started on a huge £300 million indoor ski resort in the Welsh hills
