Always wanted to walk in the footsteps of a bonafide music legend? We can do you one better. You could live in a house once occupied by a member of one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

The late Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts spent nearly four decades living at Halsdon House in Devon before he passed in 2021. Now, his daughter has put it up for sale.

The Grade II-listed seventeenth century home spans three floors and nearly 8,600 square ft. It boasts nine generously-sized bedrooms, six bathrooms, five reception rooms and a library, which featured in a viral Rolling Stones video in 2020. Outside, there’s 55 acres of impeccably landscaped gardens and a self-contained annexe to enjoy.

Happen to own a few ponies? Charlie’s wife Shirley Watts was a globally renowned Arabian horse breeder, so there’s a large stable yard and a complex of workshops and barns that come with the property, too. There’s also a cellar and boot room, in case you were in need of even more storage.

All of that could be yours for a (relatively) modest £2.75 million. Halsdon doesn’t look particularly rock and roll at the moment, though — the interiors are definitely in need of some modernising. It’s decked out with lots of kitsch, seventies-style furnishing and the walls could definitely do with a fresh lick of paint.

Greg Crosse of Savills in Exeter told Country Life: ‘Although a new owner will want to come in and refresh the interiors, at its heart is a very good-looking house, attractive formal gardens, the potential for two access points, an area of woodland and excellent equestrian facilities.’ You can see all the details and more photos of the property on Savills here
