Taking the M6? You can now grab a Pret sandwich without unbuckling your seatbelt

Unless you’re among the few impressively-organised folks who manage to take a packed lunch to the office every day (teach us your ways!), then you’ll have your Pret order memorised. With around 500 shops around the UK – in high streets, shopping malls, railway stations, airports and petrol stations – there are few places you can’t grab a posh cheddar baguette or a fruit pot from the ubiquitous lunch spot.
Last year, Pret a Manger announced plans to open new travel locations around the country, floating the idea of launching airport kiosks and roadside drive-thrus. In total, it plans to boost its location numbers to 1,500, with a focus on travel-based sites.
Now, the first of these new concept stores has opened its doors. As of May 5, Warrington locals and road trippers travelling through northwest England can order a Pret coffee or a chicken salad from the comfort of your car.
Pret’s new drive-thru is located at BP Oakwood Gate service station in Birchwood at Junction 21, which connects the M6 motorway with the A57 and B5210, a 15 minute drive from Warrington town centre in Cheshire.
If you’re heading that way and fancy checking it out, you can cruise up to its digital menu boards via a dedicated lane for cars. When its ready, a server will pass your order through the drive-thru window. As well as offering a quick pit stop, the 2,000 square foot shop also has 48 seats inside if you fancy a longer break to stretch your legs. There are also customer toilets and EV charging points.
Pret currently has around 60 walk-in roadside locations. The new Warrington spot is the first of 30 more to come, some of which will trial the drive-thru concept, meaning if it’s a success we could be seeing more of these motorway-adjacent grab-and-go spots popping up elsewhere.
