It’s that time of year when we start making plans for 2023. And yes, we’re talking about holidays. But while funds remain seriously tight, planning a big tip somewhere sunny is looking less and less likely. So we’ve got the perfect remedy – a spectacular road trip, right here in the UK

So listen up. Britain’s most beautiful road trips have just been revealed, according to a survey of 2,000 drivers in Great Britain and Northern Ireland by car rental firm Drivalia. And the smooth drive that came out top when respondents were asked which roads were properly scenic? The route from Kendal to Keswick in the Lake District. The drive follows the A591 for 30 miles and takes around an hour. You’ll take in some seriously stunning scenery, from the Lakeland Fells to the banks of Windermere.

Coming up behind the Lake District is the drive from Loch Lomond to Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands. On this scenic route, you’ll spot Loch Ba, Loch Tulla and Argyll Forest Park. In third place was the Coastal Way in Wales, which runs the entire beautiful length of Cardigan Bay (and stetches on for around 180 miles).

Here are the ten most scenic road trips according to the Drivalia survey:

1. Kendal to Keswick in the Lake District, England
2. Loch Lomond to Glencoe, Scotland
3. The Coastal Way, Wales
4. Snake Pass, the Pennines, England
5. The winding road through Cheddar Gorge
6. Journey around the New Forest, England
7. Loch Lomond to Lochgilphead, Scotland
8. B3306 – St Ives to St Just, Cornwall, England
9. Edinburgh to Cairngorms National Park, Scotland
10. London to Stonehenge, England
