This week is National Fertility Awareness Week. In the UK, as many as 3.5 million people face fertility issues and it’s estimated that 7 percent of men are impacted by infertility. It’s welcome news, then, that Superdrug has launched the country’s first male fertility service on the high street.

The service is designed to give people access to information about their fertility and help them take control of their reproductive health. Superdrug is offering a discreet and convenient testing service for men that consists of an at-home test kit that can be picked up in store. The test involves a clinical-grade sperm test which uses ‘state-of-the-art’ microscopes. The sample will then be picked up by a courier and the results, along with a full diagnostic report, will be available 48 hours after the lab receives it.

If the test detects an abnormality, the Superdrug Online Doctor service can provide further advice on improving sperm quality or where to get further advice and support.

Dr Babak Ashrafi, of Superdrug, said: ‘This is a discreet and convenient service and for people trying to conceive, these test results may help provide answers and signpost them in the right direction.

‘With the decline in male fertility across society, and with the NHS advising that people see a GP if they have not managed to conceive after 12 months of trying for a baby, a year can make a difference to fertility levels so the sooner you know, the sooner you can act.’
