If we have one thing to thank the pandemic for, it’s how it forced us all to appreciate our tiny island a bit more. And as it turns out, it’s not all rain and Greggs: it actually has quite a lot to offer.
With the days getting longer, the weather (somewhat) improving and a bumper month of bank holidays right around the corner, you might be starting to think about planning a bit of a getaway. Well, handily, cottage rental agency Sykes has published a study revealing the most popular UK staycation spots for 2023, based on its booking data and consumer research of 2,000 British adults.
Topping the list was Britain’s largest county, Yorkshire. With the dramatic landscapes of the Dales, cutting-edge culture in Leeds and seaside respite in Scarborough, the area truly has something to suit every holidaymaker. In second place was Cornwall, with the Scottish Highlands and Islands coming in third.
With the ‘cozzy livs’ squeezing our spending, Sykes predicts that 50 percent of Brits will choose to stay on UK soil rather than travel abroad this year. But it’s not just about the money: people are apparently holidaying here instead of overseas due to the convenience and the travel being less stressful.
Here are the ten most popular staycation spots, according to Sykes:
- Yorkshire
- Cornwall
- Scottish Highlands and Islands
- Cumbria
- Northumberland
- Devon
- Norfolk
- Berkshire
- North Wales
- Isle of Wight
