Just because summer has ended doesn’t mean we have to immediately shut ourselves indoors, to hibernate until the weather warms up sometime in 2024. As outside begins to get a little crisper, so the season for wholesome days out and strolls through autumn leaves with a steaming thermos of hot chocolate begins.

The National Trust runs plenty of places throughout the UK that are ideal for an autumn visit. And while those attractions sometimes involve the small snag of an entry fee, hundreds of them will be open for free. To encourage people to make the most of the UK’s great outdoors this autumn, the National Trust is offering free passes for a whole month.

The National Trust’s properties include the former home of Beatrix Potter and the birthplace of William Wordsworth. If you fancy visiting a stately home, a coastal gem or a winding woodland, you can claim a single-use pass to use between September 18 and October 20 2023. It allows free entry for two adults and up to three children, one adult and up to four children, or two adults on their own.

There are a few attractions exempt from the offer, so best double check to avoid disappointment. You can check where these are over on the National Trust website. It should also be noted that the deal only covers attractions in England and Wales, as National Trust Scotland is a separate body.

You can claim the free pass right here. For places that you need to prebook to visit, use the code ESCAPEINTOAUTUMN2023 to ensure that you secure free entry.

Did you see that the UK is officially one of the freest places on Earth?
