No driving licence? No problem. Until the end of October, single fares for buses around England are capped at £2, meaning you can journey through some of the UK’s most scenic routes on the cheap and leave the driving up to someone else.

If you’re keen to make the most of the cap before it goes up in a couple of months, VisitEngland has revealed the six most picturesque bus routes England has to offer. And believe us when we say some of them are amongst the most scenic roads this country has to offer.

Topping the list was the X53 Jurassic Coaster, which, as the name suggests, cruises along the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. This double-decker starts from Poole Harbour in the east to Lyme Regis and Axminster in the west. If you want to hop on and off this route, there’s a ‘go-as-you-please’ unlimited travel day ticket, which for an adult costs £13.

Following in second place was the 555 bus, which travels through the Lake District from Keswick to Lancaster and even has an audio commentary to accompany the stunning views.

The Atlantic Coaster in Cornwall secured third place. On this route, you’ll be able to enjoy ocean vistas from the open-top, starting in Newquay and weaving through Porth, Watergate Bay, Mawgan Porth and Harlyn Bay to Padstow.

Former number one Coastliner 840 came fourth for its views of the dramatic North York Moors National Park and the 271/272 from Sheffield to Castleton followed in fifth, on which you have the opportunity to hop off and climb Stanage Edge, famous for featuring in the 2005 ‘Pride and Prejudice’ film.

Finally, Norfolk's 36 Coastliner running from King’s Lynn to Wells-next-to-the-Sea rounds off the list. Along the way, it passes by the royal residence at Sandringham Estate and Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve. VisitEngland suggests that if you wish to continue your journey, hop on the CH1 Coasthopper to Cromer.
