This British restaurant has just been named the best in the world

TripAdvisor has revealed the top places to dine out across the globe – and the UK has smashed it

Good news, foodies: TripAdvisor has just revealed its top-rated restaurants to dine at across the globe, and loads of them are in the UK.

And the best of the bunch? That would be the Michelin-starred Old Stamp House in Ambleside, which was named the best fine-dining restaurant not only in the UK and Europe, but the entire world.

The Lake District restaurant clinched the top spot globally for the second consecutive year, with highest average scores on the travel reviews site. And to be fair, it does look pretty damn nice. A typical tasting menu includes things like grey squirrel with coriander and piccalilli, and English Channel turbot with potted shrimps and samphire.

Fancy planning a food-themed staycation? Here are the ten best fine-dining restaurants specifically in the UK, according to TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards:

1. The Old Stamp House Restaurant, Ambleside, Cumbria
2. Paul Ainsworth at No. 6, Padstow, Cornwall
3. Hide and Fox, Hythe, Kent
4. Frog by Adam Handling, London
5. The Olive Tree, Bath, Somerset
6. Galvin La Chapelle, London
7. The Gannet, Glasgow
8. The Mahal, Cheltenham, Cotswolds
9. Dean Banks at the Pompadour, Edinburgh
10. Gem42, Newport, South Wales

ICYMI: the shortlist for Eurovision 2023 host city is now down to two – Liverpool or Glasgow.

Plus: temperatures are set to plunge to -2C in the UK next week.
