If you’re old enough to have been on the OG Haçienda dancefloor in the late ’80s and ’90s, well, lucky you. If you missed out at the time, here’s just the thing: an airport bar is bringing the Madchester rave era back to life.

Manchester Airport has revealed a new look for a Terminal 2 bar, taking inspiration from an iconic era in the city’s music history. The Amber Alehouse’s refurb is a nod to the former nightclub and Factory records epicentre.

The bar’s design pays homage to the former venue and its storied history, its walls adorned with the distinctive Factory Records stripes at the Haçienda and pasted with famous faces which frequented the club back in the day. Happy Mondays, Oasis and the Stone Roses – that lot.

As for the all-important tunes, expect a playlist of ’indie dance tracks curated by a DJ. The Amber Alehouse has even teased live DJ sets at the bar from time to time.

On tap will be craft beers from Salford’s Seven Bro7hers brewery, plus a menu featuring ‘comfort food and timeless classics’.

The new look is part of the bar’s recent expansion which has boosted capacity by 100 seats. The Amber Alehouse now also boasts a glass roof, put in as part of Manchester Airport's wider £1.3 billion redevelopment scheme for Terminal 2. Let’s hope the renovations go some way towards rectifying its reputation one of Britain’s less pleasant airports

The newly renovated Amber Alehouse will have some healthy competition when T2’s much-anticipated Wetherspoons opens later this year. Originally set to open last summer, it will be the first ever ’Spoons branch inside the airport.
