If you've ever read a Brontë sister or Bram Stoker novel and fancied yourself residing in one of those dark, mysterious sorts of homes, this news could be right up your alley. Thanks to a property called The Gate House that’s gone up for sale in Kent, now you might be able live out your brooding gothic dreams at a fairly affordable price. Minus all the spooky stuff, hopefully.

The Gate House is a pocket-sized Grade II-listed castle near Dover and it’s due to go to auction on January 31. It’s got all your classic gothic features – think exposed beams, a tower, angular ceilings and big fireplaces (though it is a little more poky than Wuthering Heights or Dracula’s Castle).

The one-bedroom house includes a tiny turret and a bedroom complete with a double four-poster bed, ensuite and a large fireplace. There’s a cosy living room leading through to a small dining area and a more modern kitchen.

The Gate House sits on a sharp bend between Victoria Park and Castle Hill Road but is a stone's throw away from Dover Castle, which dates back to the eleventh century.  The Rightmove listing describes it as being ‘conveniently located for all local amenities and public transport links including Dover Priory station which provides regular services to London’s St Pancras International station’.

You can peep some pics of the miniature castle below.

There are loads more weird and wonderful properties up for grabs in the UK right now. See what you think of this Scottish kirk next to a 4,000-year-old stone circle or this uber extravagent mansion that used to belong to Napoleon's brother (we can dream).

Did you see that Britain’s cheapest train ticket has been revealed - and it only costs 70p?

Plus: the Royal Shakespeare Company is selling loads of cheap tickets right now
