Rollercoasters certainly aren’t for everyone, but those who’ve caught the thrill-seeking bug are always on the lookout for rides that are more adrenaline-fuelled than the last. As a general rule, the bigger and faster the rollercoaster, the better.
For years, the crown for being the tallest rollercoaster in the UK belonged to The Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which stands at 230 feet tall. The title of the country’s fastest rollercoaster, meanwhile, is currently held by Stealth at Thorpe Park.
But now, both are eclipsed by Thorpe Park’s highly anticipated new ride, Hyperia.
Hyperia has just been completed. It’s 236ft (72m) tall and reaches speeds of over 80mph, making it both the UK’s highest and fastest coaster.
Thorpe Park has released a video showing what riding the new attraction will look like as you ride it. And with huge dips, sudden twists and a big loop, it doesn’t look like it will be for the faint of heart. Beyond that, we’ve got a few vague slogans including ‘feel weightless’, ‘never fear again’ and ‘find your fearless’. Yeah, our guess is as good as yours.
But that isn’t all the news from the rollercoaster world. Alton Towers is also getting a new addition to its park soon after a ‘highly secretive’ £12.5m project was reportedly given the go ahead back in February. Time will tell whether it knocks Hyperia off its podium.
And now Thorpe Park’s Hyperia has an official opening date. If you’re planning a trip, May 24 is the big day when the ride will open to the public. Find out more here.
