A lot of people were pretty peeved when Doncaster-Sheffield Airport closed for good last year. But now, to make up for it, nearby Humberside Airport in North Lincolnshire is expected to expand the international flights it has on offer. Which is very good news for holidaymakers indeed.

One of the smallest airports in the UK, Humberside currently only has a few services to European holiday destinations, including one weekly flight to Majorca, twice-weekly flights to Bourgas in Bulgaria and several links to Lapland during the winter.

Claire Homes, of East Riding Council, told Hull Live: ‘Following the closure of Doncaster Airport, it’s anticipated that Humberside Airport will become a focus.

‘Demand from both leisure and business travellers is expected to increase which will maximise the opportunities for Humber residents and businesses.’

Doncaster-Sheffield Airport was forced to shut back in October after Wizz Air pulled all flights and left only TUI services in operation. But there are hopes that the site, which was named the UK’s best airport shortly before closing, could be revived.
