Between strikes, storms, and forgetting your railcard, taking a train doesn’t exactly seem like the most appealing option at the mo. But here’s something that’ll get you right back into exploring the nation by rail: for the next three days, Northern Rail is having a flash sale.

Until Friday January 5, the train operator is offering over five million tickets for less than £1.50. The flash sale is on for three days, but get them sooner rather than later, as the company warns that ‘once they’re gone, they’re gone!’. Apparently some extremely popular routes are already close to selling out.

Tickets will be valid for travel between January 17 and March 10, and are available to adults for as little as £1, or children for only 50p. There’s no secret code or hidden fee; simply buy your tickets via Northern as usual and so long as you get there before they sell out, enjoy a very, very rare snippet of affordable train travel.

Mark Powles, customer director at Northern, has expressed his excitement for their ‘biggest flash sale ever’, saying: ‘Our customers travel for a multitude of reasons, so our hope is this sale will make five million of them – be they for days out, weekends away or catch-ups with friends – that bit more affordable.’

Interested? We can hardly blame ya. Grab your tickets on the Northern Rail website here and get planning a train-tastic jaunt up north.
