Porthcawl, a Welsh seaside town just south of Swansea, is known for its seven beaches and picturesque seafront. But over the years the town has been somewhat neglected with its public facilities falling into disrepair and rejuvenation attempts stalled by delayed funding. Well, until now. Porthcawl has finally gotten the major makeover residents have been waiting for.

A £2.4 million revamp of the Cosy Corner redevelopment sees the opening of six brand-new commercial units with outdoor seating, space for outdoor events, public toilets and changing facilities for users of the nearby marina. The space is starting to liven up with its first round of tenants, which include Saltlake Seafood Co and WhoCult Coffee and Doughnuts.

The new revamped seafront has already been popular among residents and weekenders alike, with plenty flocking to the new marina to enjoy the sea breeze with family and friends.

Rhys Goode, a member of Bridgend County Borough Council, said: The new development at Cosy Corner is something that we can be very proud of. Since we took over the project, it has not only transformed a redundant space on the town’s popular seafront and tackled the safe removal of contaminated land, but it has introduced a fantastic, all-new community space that will benefit both residents and visitors alike.

Even more excitingly, Porthcawl’s revamp doesn’t stop there. The second phase of the development plans to kick-off later this year and includes an outdoor children's play area. The plan is to create a durable area that is able to withstand maritime weather conditions while also preserving neighbouring historic structures like the Grade II-listed Jennings Building warehouse that dates back to 1832.

So, now there are even more reasons to head down to Porthcawl! All the seafront renovations are set to be complete by sometime in 2024.

ICYMI: these are officially the most spectacular new buildings in the UK.
