Looking for somewhere to stay in the Lakes this summer? Let us put The Royal Oak on your radar. The Grade II-listed building dates back to the 1700s and is very conveniently located right in the middle of Keswick.

Following a brief closure at the beginning of this year and a £1.2 million investment, the hotel has reopened with a fresh new look. It now has 18 individually designed bedrooms with new bathrooms, a new snug area with a roaring fire, a refreshed restaurant with new furniture and an updated bar. All of the new decor has been inspired by the heritage inn and the rural landscape that surrounds it.

Rick Bailey, executive chairman of Thwaites said: ‘This marks the completion of a long-term investment in one of Keswick’s historic inns. As a family-run hospitality business, Thwaites is proud to own The Royal Oak and to have invested in its future.

‘Every stage has been about protecting the character of the building while ensuring it meets the expectations of today’s guests. The result is a space that feels both timeless and refreshed.’

The pub and the bedrooms at the Royal Oak are both dog-friendly. Pooches can be booked into certain rooms for an extra £20 and will be treated to their own bed and bag of goodies.

A night for two adults at the Royal Oak, including breakfast, starts from £125. The Lakes is a glorious place to visit any time of the year, but if you a bit more going on, time your stay to coincide with Keswick Beer Festival on June 5-6, or with the atmospheric Keswick Victorian Fayre at the beginning of September.
