Westfield White City is a mammoth shopping mall. Spanning nine different postcodes in west London, with 322 different stores, it’s the largest shopping centre in all of Europe – and its sister venue in Stratford doesn’t follow far behind. Now, the Westfield brand is venturing out of London in the UK for the very first time and heading for Scotland.
The £1 billion St James’ Quarter in Edinburgh (home to the building known by some locals as ‘golden jobby’) has been acquired by retail giant Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) will be rebranded as a Westfield destination in 2026.
URW said that it plans to ‘elevate [St James’ Quarter’s] performance by leveraging our retail operations and media expertise, as well as bringing the globally recognised Westfield brand to the destination.’ It’ll run its new Scottish hub in partnership with long-term investor APG.
St James’ Quarter, which opened in 2021, boasts 80,000 square metres of retail, dining and leisure space. There are 80 shops, an Everyman Cinema and 152 swanky apartments, and it sits among the top 20 highest-footfall retail destinations in Europe.
Besides the new branding (a precise name is yet to be revealed) it doesn’t look like many other changes are planned for the quarter as part of the acquisition. Edinburgh’s shoppers will still get to browse the stores they know and love.
Plus: One of the best shopping centres in Scotland is getting a huge makeover.
