An LGBTQ+ coming-of-age drama set in the early 2000s was always bound to have an absolute killer playlist of pop classics and dancefloor fillers.
Based on Paris Lees’ memoirs of the same name, What It Feels Like For A Girl follows teenage misfit Byron as he discovers his true identity.
The playlist is full of Y2K nostalgia with huge tunes from the likes of All Saints, Sugababes and Goldfrapp.

Who composed the score?
What It Feels Like For A Girl features the musical talents of DJ Jakwob, with his previous credits including scoring 2023 movie How To Have Sex, and producing for artists such as Celeste, Little Simz and Charli XCX.
‘It was a dream to work on the music for this series, and so special to have my score sit alongside some of the most iconic dance records from the early 2000s,’ says DJ Jakwob.
‘The show is a chaotic rollercoaster, covering all emotions to the extreme, so this was particularly exciting to explore sonically - from traumatic childhood memories to euphoric dance floor moments.’

What It Feels Like For A Girl cast.
‘This is a proudly working-class story, and it needed a cast who could bring it to life authentically,’ says creator Paris Lees. ‘We’ve struck gold with these highly talented actors, some of whom are already familiar faces - and some who are about to be.’
Ellis Howard (Catherine the Great) takes on the lead role of Byron. With Jake Dunn (Renegade Nell) as Liam, Calam Lynch (Bridgerton, Sweetpea) as Max, both of whom become love interests of sorts to young Byron.
For Byron’s new family of queer pals, Laquarn Lewis (Jamie Johnson) stars as Lady Die, newcomer Hannah Jones as Sasha, and Adam Ali (Waterloo Road) as Dirty Damian.
Michael Socha (Toxic Town) and Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Byron’s estranged parents.
The series also includes cameo appearances from Fay Ripley (Cold Feet) as a TV chat show host, and Selina Mosinski - better known as alter-ego Charity Shop Sue - as a call centre manager.
