‘Life on Mars’ and ‘State of Play’ actor John Simm has dealt with some shady business on screen before, but not with quite the regularity of his Brighton-based copper Roy Grace. The detective superintendent is back on the telly to tackle more criminal activity on the South Coast in a third series of ITV’s hit crime drama ‘Grace’.

Based on Peter James’s bestselling Roy Grace novels, the series does for Brighton and surrounds what ‘Luther’ does for London, transforming it into a murky, heightened underworld.

The disappearance, and possible death, of Grace’s wife continues to hang over the troubled but dogged detective in three episodes based on James’s novels ‘Dead Like You’, ‘Dead Man’s Grip’ and ‘Not Dead Yet’. The Sussex town of Brighton and neighbouring Hove again form the backdrop for his crime-solving endeavours as he tracks down perverts, murderers and assorted other crims.

Where is Grace filmed?

Brighton is the show’s main turf and the town’s seaside landmarks – Brighton Palace Pier, Hove Lagoon and Embassy Court among them – have been regular fixtures across its three seasons to date.

Expect the South Downs to feature prominently too, including Devil’s Dyke, eight miles from Brighton to the north. It’s been a crime scene in previous seasons.

Who is in the Grace season 3 cast?

Alongside Simm is Zoë Tapper as Cleo Morey, a pathology technician whose romantic connection with Grace is now firmly established. ‘She’s very satisfied with her life as it is; she’s committed to her work and perfectly happy being single,’ Tapper told Entertainment Daily, ‘but actually meeting Grace is like finding a kindred spirit.’

Also back for season 3 is Richie Campbell as Grace’s best mate DS Glenn Branson, and ‘Line of Duty’s Craig Parkinson as blunt-spoken DS Norman Potting. Another ‘Line of Duty’ alumnus, Laura Elphinstone, plays DS Bella Moy, another colleague of Grace’s on the force

How can I watch and when does it start?

‘Grace’s three episodes come in the form of feature-length films. The first episode is streaming now on itvX and the second and third are due to air at 8pm on Sunday 29 and April 2, respectively.

Will there be a season 4 of Grace?

Yes indeed. It starts filming in April, so spring 2024 is a likely time frame for it to air on ITV. Season 4 will have four feature-length episodes based on Peter James’s novels ‘Dead Man's Time’, ‘Want You Dead’, ‘You Are Dead’ and ‘Love You Dead’.
