The ITV crime drama returns with another mysterious murder to be solved

ITV crime drama After the Flood is back on screens for another head-scratching murder-mystery.
After tackling devastating floods in the first series, this time DS Jo Marshall (Sophie Rundle) and colleagues must tackle wildfires whilst solving more murders and rooting out police corruption.
Here’s all you need to know about the second series of After the Flood.
The second series finds newly promoted detective Jo Marshall on the trail of a baffling new murder investigation.
The rising threat of moorland fires and risk of more flooding cause tensions among locals to simmer, with the discovery of a dead body adding further mystery to the chaos.
Marshall's race to stop the killer brings her into direct conflict with dark forces within the town, ultimately drawing her into an investigation that becomes deeply personal and will require her to operate in secret to root out corruption in the police and her own family.
After the Flood is set in the fictional town of Waterside in Yorkshire, but filming actually took place across Greater Manchester and the Peak District.
Filming took place in areas that are affected by environmental disasters.
‘The location is a beautiful character to the story because it looks so good, but at the same time, this is a place where a lot of flooding is happening and where other communities are suffering,’ notes executive producer Nicola Shindler. ‘Locating it in places where real-life events are happening makes it feel more authentic.’
Market town Glossop stood in for fictional Waterside
The historic Derbyshire market town of Glossop stood in for Waterside in the series, with a recently closed NatWest providing the exterior for Waterside Police Station.
Swanky neighbourhood Alderley Edge is where Jo and Pat meet
Despite going through divorce, Jo and Pat must still work together to bring down their corrupt bosses. For their secret meetings, the pair rendezvous at a park where they first got engaged.
The filming location was within Alderley Edge, an affluent neighbourhood in Greater Manchester that is known for its scenic vistas and famous residents.
Molly’s wild swimming spot was filmed in the Lake District
In the opening episode, Jo and her newborn baby go to watch Molly take part in some wild swimming.
The location used for these scenes was the Jackdaw Quarry in the Lake District.
The vast moorland location is near Rochdale
A wildfire across the moorlands has a devastating impact on local residents of Waterside, with the moorland near Wardle, Rochdale, used as the filming location.
After the Flood launches on ITV1 on Sunday, January 18, with episode 2 following on Monday, January 19.
The series consists of six episodes with the remaining four instalments airing across the next two weeks on Sunday and Monday evenings.
Anyone too impatient to wait for more shocking twists and turns can head over to the ITVX streaming service where the full series is available now.
Sophie Rundle (The Diplomat) returns as Jo Marshall, who now juggles her police career with a newborn child while navigating separation from husband and colleague Pat, played by Sophie’s real-life husband Matt Stokoe (Jamestown).
Bridgerton and Silent Witness actress Lorraine Ashbourne returns as Jo’s mother Molly.
The Feud star Jill Halfpenny joins the cast as DS Sam Bradley, alongside Matthew McNulty (The Jetty) as the mysterious Xav Palmer, who becomes a central part of the drama.
