Would you rather be stuck at home this winter or spend it in a five-star resort in Egypt? The latter, surely? And what if you found out that going abroad would actually save you money? There’d be no question at all about which option you’d go for.

Well, package-holiday firm EasyJet Holidays says its all-inclusive 28-day deal at a hotel in Hurghada would cost you less money than spending four weeks at home in the UK this winter.

The company is offering the package for £650 per person, saying this is £227 less than the average cost of food, accommodation and household bills.

The folks at easyJet figured this out using data from the Office for National Statistics and said that the typical person spends £877 on groceries, accommodation and bills in a given month. This includes £415.33 on accommodation; £143.11 on groceries; £110.83 on dining out and takeaways; £105.78 on travel; £68.06 on gas and electricity; £17.50 on phone and broadband; £12.06 on water; and £4.18 on TV streaming services.

Matt Callaghan, of EasyJet Holidays, said: ‘We looked at everything an EasyJet Holidays package deal has to offer and have been able to confirm that yes, comparably, our 28-day winter escape is cheaper than staying at home this year.’

The all-inclusive holiday in Hurghada went live yesterday for dates in January 2023.

ICYMI: here’s how to see the partial solar eclipse in the UK this week.

Plus: more UK train strikes are planned for October and November.
