If you’re tired of staring at a screen 24/7 and constantly being sucked into a never-ending scroll, might we suggest hopping on board a bus? Specifically, we mean the Old Number 1 bus – a retired vehicle residing in the peaceful Shropshire countryside that is now available to stay in.

The Old Number 1 has led a pretty rock and roll lifestyle... for a bus. Originally one of five buses made specifically to take on the narrow winding roads of the Isle of Man, it was then a tour bus for Isle of Man motorcycle stunt team the Purple Helmets. It was later found abandoned in a field.

Upon being rescued, the Old Number 1 was restored and rose from the ashes as an artist’s liaison bus at music festivals, ferrying the likes of Ed Sheeran, Little Mix, Blondie and Duffy. It all sounds like a great premise for a bus biopic, if you ask us.

The double-decker bus is now retired from life on the road and taking a well-earned break close to Kinton, a small hamlet in Shropshire. Converted into a cosy retreat for two with a polished wooden interior and bohemian decor, the upper deck of the bus is now a bedroom decked out with a double bed, bookshelves and a couple of nooks for reading. Downstairs you’ll find the kitchen and a living space featuring a wood burner for cold autumnal evenings.

With zero wi-fi, it’s ideal for a digital detox (though, if you’re desperate, phone signal is available). As well as the fully equipped kitchen on board, there’s a separate hut with a BBQ, as well as an outdoor fire pit. Visitors are advised that torches, wellies and walking boots are essential, particularly as the shower shack is a 20-metre stretch from the bus.

Listed nearby activities include gliding, horse-riding, kayaking or wine tasting. Stays in Old Number 1 start from £99 per night –if you’d like to find out more or book a stay, you can do so on the official website here.
