There are few places in the UK that feel more romantic than the Isle of Skye. Far away from the demands of the city, its scenery is straight out of a fairytale – from mountains draped in a dreamy mist to glassy waterfalls that look like portals to other worlds.
The Old Man of Storr is one of the island’s most spectacular landmarks. The sight on Trotternish peninsula (almost resembling cathedral spires) features the remnants of volcanic activity from millions of years ago and has had starring roles in the likes of Prometheus and The Wickerman. Granted, those aren’t the most romantic films, but the Old Man does have a certain gothic romance about it. And now, it could play a starring role in your wedding day.
Storr visitor centre opened near the landmark in July last year. At the moment, it has a shop and parking facilities for people visiting the Old Man and now its entering phase two. As part of that second phase, it plans to start hosting weddings.
Before the Storr centre officially starts offering wedding services, Highland Council says that it will oversee between 25 and 30 nuptials in the coming months while another local venue, Tigh-na-Sgire in Portree, gets a refurbishment. Those will help it provide ‘experiences and insights’ ahead of it offering its own services in 2026.

A report by Highland Council revealed that in its first year, Storr visitor centre generated income of £282,000, which went towards improving the roads in the surrounding area, including roads to the Fairy Pools, Neist Point and Coral Beach.
John Finlayson, the chair of the Skye and Raasay committee, said: ‘The site at the Old Man of Storr is supporting jobs, promoting sustainable tourism and is improving the overall visitor experience at one of the island’s most famous attractions.
‘As this report shows, the project has proven to be a tremendous success, with income streams supporting key local infrastructure and services.’
