Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room

Movies, Documentary

Time Out says

Based on the 2003 best-seller of the same name, Alex Gibney's mesmerizing docu-exposé contextualizes America's calamitous business scandal with cogent commentary. All of Enron's greatest hits get a proper airing, from executive Jeffrey Skilling calling a too-inquisitive analyst an "asshole" to Senator Carl Levin ferociously bearing down on "the fiction" of the billions in profit. Occasionally, the director goes too far into Michael Moore territory, employing obvious pop tunes to score a cheap laugh. But Gibney's mostly sober film fulfills an undeniable civic service, especially in our age of "don't ask why."
