Land of the Lost

Lost is putting it mildly. A seriously mistaken enterprise, this Cat in the Hat--worthy stinker grafts the DNA of a Gerald Ford--era children’s TV show (barely remembered by thirtysomethings) to the restless-leg freneticism of today’s CGI-heavy blockbustering. The choked-off results will please no one: Will Ferrell and Danny McBride—as arrogant scientist and arrogant tour guide, respectively—seem creatively exhausted, while the show’s slow-moving reptilian Sleestaks and dinos hardly register on the humor scale. Only one hallucinogenic scene, set at a half-buried motel in the desert, works. Indeed, drugs should be insisted upon—by those bored enough to wander into the theater.—Joshua Rothkopf
