5 out of 5 stars

Finally, a resort that lives up to its name.

Topnotch Resort is a fantastic option for anyone looking for a home base in Stowe that checks multiple boxes. Located on Mountain Road between Stowe Village and Mt. Mansfield, the resort’s location means you’re close to both the world-famous runs at Stowe Resort and the charming restaurants and bars that can be found downtown. That’s assuming, of course, that guests want to leave the resort itself which boasts large and bright contemporary rooms, a popular on-site restaurant and bar, tennis courts, pools and a luxurious, 35,000-square-foot spa.

The 68 guestrooms and suites are spacious and attractive with sweeping views of the mountains, large closets (perfect for storing gear) and works of art inspired by the locale’s forested surroundings. The common areas have a modern and elevated feel while the lobby restaurant and bar, The Roost, is a lively gathering space—serving food and drinks from breakfast until dinner. In addition to the guestrooms and suites, those who want to spring for some extra luxe lodgings can book one of the 16 resort homes located on the property.

The expansive Topnotch Spa is a huge part of this resort’s draw. It boasts 30 treatment rooms with more than 60 different treatments and services. (Try a traditional massage and opt for a woodsy aromatherapy scent inspired by the surrounding natural landscape.) Impressively, the relaxing men’s and women’s locker rooms also boast well-appointed sitting areas as well as private Jacuzzis, saunas and steam rooms. The spaces are the perfect way to have a quiet escape from the busier indoor and outdoor pool areas.

You’ll find the hospitality is typical of a luxury resort with staff going above and beyond to help you make the most of your Vermont vacation. The on-site Mountain Ops Outdoor Gear helpfully provides rental gear and clothing for skiing, cycling, biking, snowshoeing, mountain biking and more. Those looking to get outside can also take advantage of the Stowe Recreation Path, a scenic, 5.3-mile greenway that stretches from the resort directly to Stowe Village. Meanwhile, the tennis center, Topnotch Tennis, is consistently ranked one of the best in the country.

The standout offering at The Roost is its innovative cocktails with well-executed takes on classic drinks. The menu takes ample advantage of the surrounding natural bounty utilizing local cheeses, maple syrup and other iconic Vermont ingredients. Don’t miss the Lamb Bolognese which is hearty enough to prepare you for your next day of outdoor adventuring.

Neighborhood

Topnotch Resort is located on the main street that connects Stowe Resort and other major ski mountains with Stowe Village, a picture perfect New England town that will make you feel like you’re starring in a Hallmark Channel movie.

Nearby

Fantastic restaurants and bars in the area include Doc Ponds, Cork and The Alchemist Brewery. The resort’s on-site restaurant The Roost is also a great option for cocktails and drinks.

Time Out Tip

Free shuttles run from the resort to the base of Stowe Resort so you won’t have to bother with finding a parking space at the mountain for a day on the slopes.
