Cassetteboy vs DJ Rubbish review

'You will never ever have a better time than this,' shouts a man in a wig into a microphone. 'Which is in some ways insulting, and in some ways a bit sad.' So begins the hour-and-a-half of entertainment provided by Cassetteboy vs DJ Rubbish which is, for the sake of clarity, not a Fringe show as such, but more of a disco with a comedy twist.

Cassetteboy is the two-person editing team who achieved YouTube infamy for chopping up clips of Alan Sugar, Jeremy Kyle, and other unwitting speechifiers to make them say rude things. Puerile, yes, but also hilarious. Check out Sugar spouting, 'My cock and bollocks stretch from Tower Bridge right up to Westminster' for a taste. Here they've taken a well-chosen selection of party classics, from 'Rio' by Duran Duran, to 'Get Lucky' by Daft Punk, and given them the Cassetteboy treatment. Rio becomes Rio Ferdinand – screens beside the small DJ platform show the Manchester United defender dancing on the sand – while 'Get Lucky' becomes 'We're up all night to scampi', and is cut up with clips of Jimmy Doherty extolling the virtues of deep-friend crustacean.

It's as silly as Fringe entertainment gets – which is saying something. At the opening, DJ Rubbish (who makes the duo a trio) commands 'mandatory movement' to the assembled crowd, and those sheepishly sat at the back of the room start to get their groove on. I danced like Rio, I'm not ashamed to say. It was near impossible not to have a good time.

The reworked version of Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' – with the boys in the crew taking on the roles of the naked girls in the Canadian star's crass video – was not only hilarious, it also showed how good this lot are at parodying the right thing at the right time. '#PRICK' flashed up on the screens. Take that Thicko! Like Sugar, and like Cameron, he's another ponce taken down my silliness. And if that isn't a reason to party, what is?
