The interior of the Medieval Palace, the royal residence, where Henry III and Edward I lived, has been restored with replica furniture and wall-hangings, and imbued with medieval smells and sounds. An audio trail shows visitors where famous prisoners, including Walter Raleigh, Guy Fawkes and Ann Boleyn, were held and includes a visit to the execution site, surrounded by stone walls covered in inscriptions by doomed prisoners. 'Images of the Tower' is an exhibition which invites visitors to measure themselves against the armour of a six-foot-nine giant or sit astride a life-size horse and face Henry VIII in full battle armour. 'Torture at the Tower' is a display of replicas of torture instruments known to have been used on traitors in the Tower in centuries past, with trails designed to reveal the stories of the prisoners and the treatment they endured.
