Vinyl buffs, rejoice: the Independent Label Market is back for its annual pre-Christmas sale. It’s a platform for nearly a hundred of the UK’s best independent record labels – including XL, 4AD, Domino, Mute and Hyperdub – to sell their wares directly to music lovers, and a chance for punters to get hold of some of the freshest LPs, CDs, tapes and merchandise, and hang out with the ever-friendly label staff and musicians who man the stalls.
If the idea of an indie record fair wasn’t geeky enough for you already, then check out the market’s exclusive special items. Test pressings, white labels, and limited-edition records are all on offer, but don’t miss the weirder stuff: everything from Balkan Vinyl’s ‘Star Wars’ rave remixes (packaged with replica action figures) to a ‘Dungeons & Dragons’-style board game by Numero Group, themed around obscure ’70s rock bands. Bill and Ted would almost certainly deem it ‘excellent’.
After all that you’ll probably need a drink, so it’s just as well that the London Brewers’ Market is running a pop-up beer garden next door. Head over to sample local craft brews from London and beyond, and have a (hazy) chat to the brewers behind them.
The market opens at 11am, and it’s best to arrive early if you want to take your pick of the exclusive items and beat the crowds (yep, there are crowds). So set your alarm, bring a tote bag and plenty of cash, and bag some awesome Christmas presents for all the coolest people in your life. And yourself, obviously.
