  • A very good chippie. I'm relatively new to the area and the shop was recommended by some local 'proper' sarf Londoners, plus was also intrigued by the large amount of black taxi cabs parked outside around dinner time most days - as any Londoner knows, the cabbies know London and therefore know the best/value for money places to eat (it also has a lot of police cars/vans stopping for dinner, which must be a similar badge of decent quality - so don't go there if you're on the run ;) All their fish is cooked fresh to order, so you'll be unhappy if you're hoping to run in, point at a piece of cooked fish and get out quickly as you'll have to wait for them to cook your fish, but it's well worth it in my experience and I have not been disappointed yet. I'm sure there are better places if you're willing to travel, but if you are in the area and fancy a fish supper, it's certainly the best one around here and I'm very happy to have a found a local chippie that satisfies.

  • I paid my first visit here last Friday. Basic, yet pleasant, surroundings with interesting framed photos on the walls. Free prawns and bread & butter starer was nice. Service friendly. Cod & chips fine. A decent price. Will go again.

  • We used to go there more often but recently we had few bad experiences in a row. We ordered the master cod but was given a portion smaller than the standard portion ordered by the next table. The first two times we thought they were busy and things do happen, but when it happened again we thought perhaps there is something wrong?? I checked with my Chinese friends who also felt that they have a different service to Chinese customers. I have in fact seen the chef shouting at one of the Chinese waitress. Being a customer you can easily tell which restaurant is friendly and which is not. I suppose both the restaurant and us have a choice as to whom to serve and where to go for your meal. I would not recommend any Chinese to visit this restaurant.

  • Save your money and grab a sarnie in Pret. I've never been served up such bilge in all my life! An oversized portion of chips (green in places, tasteless and awful) and a piece of Halibut that had seen better days (didn't look at all fresh, like a freezer block of fish). I would not be dragged back to this place for a FREE meal. Fish Central has always been my fave and this (one and only) visit to Masters was solely due to Old Vic theatre tickets. Never, EVER again.

  • excellent fish! take away is great value - especially as a master's special is quite ample for two even quite hungry mouths - but even if you want to pig out and go it alone its still pretty cheap. chips aren't great however. Can't really comment on the service as i hardly ever eat in. As for the comment below about lazy cooking - i can't say i'd agree with this- at a push i might apply it to the chips (i always think they could do with an extra minute or so), but the fish is almost always spot on, and delicious.

  • It's gone off, recently. Despite lazy cooking and haphazard service, it's still full, often with pensioner outings and coach parties, which means that if you can't eat what they bring you - for example if the fish is grey and foul-tasting - they still charge you for it. If geography isn't important - Kennedy's in Islington and Fish Central near the Barbican are infinitely superior in this price bracket.

  • Dined here last week when staying at the Travelodge 2 or 3 doors up the road. Delicious food, very efficient service, great value. I'll be back.

  • Masters is the Best Fish & Chip shop in London. Everything is cooked to order so you have to wait a bit, but it's well worth the wait. The fish is always perfectly cooked, as are the chips. If you eat in, you get free shrimps and bread, and wallys are offered if you want them. RECOMMENDED

  • Regular visitor every time I visit London. Service can be slow when the crowds decend upon the place, but nevertheless, the restaurant wants you to eat and leave so someone else can have your table. So service will happen. Portions are generous.
