What do we love most about this institution? Perhaps the brilliant moist salt beef, carved as you wait from a slab kept warm in the front window, or the classic smoked salmon and cream cheese, or the bagels (boiled before being baked) these fillings go into.

Or could it be the 24-hour opening with hot bread pulled fresh from the ovens all night, or a Brick Lane location that makes this the snack stop of choice for clubbers, imbibers and taxi drivers?

Indulge in a piece of New York-style cheesecake or a super-sweet almond slice if you wish (ignore the pastry-heavy sausage rolls), but remember that the bagels are what have kept punters coming back since 1977. A narrow counter caters for eaters-in.

Fantastic, and oh-so-affordable. I had a Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Beigel today, and it was filled with tasty salmon -- not at all like what the other commenters have described.

The article, comments and reviews all talk about bagels while the sign clearly proclaims Beigels - get it? The bagel is an American construct full of air and empty of taste while The London Beigal is caramelised before baking to ensure depth of flavour and texture. One you buy in Tesco the other in Brick Lane (or even St. John's Wood). Don't be seduced by the bland.

I've moved out of London now, but still dream about hitting the bagel shop after a gig or a rehearsal or a night shift at the Bass Clef Club ..... the best oral sensory experience that is ever to be had. I just hope they are open on the 28th of Dec 'cos I'm gonna be hungry!

Agreeing with Clare on the cream cheese & salmon bagel. I'll add that the cheesecake was not good at all, almost crumbly, and with a weird aftertaste. I hear people rave about Beigel Bake and I wonder what it is all about.

Got a Smoked Salmon and cream cheese beigel and to be honest, wasn't impressed at all, found the bagel far too salty, and more cheese than salmon. Price wasn't bad, but much prefer the biegels at Finsbury Park.

Simply the best beigel you'll ever sink your teeth into. It's not local to me, but if I have a hankering/need/want I don't mind the 80mile round trip. That says how good the Beigel Bake is.
Don't be scared by the ladies behind the counter, they're GREAT!

Forget kebabs and curries, if you're in the area and need filling grab a salt beef beigal from beigal bake.
Great bagels, mounds of melt in your mouth beef and it's open 24hrs.
