This bathroom emporium has been trading since 1823 and the showroom, stretched over several shopfronts on the Essex Road, is packed floor to ceiling with a huge selection of bathroomware, showerheads, screens, taps and accessories. Every taste is catered for from Empire-style cast-iron baths, such as the Brunel, through to art deco-inspired taps and the latest Philippe Starck-designed bidet. You’ll also find cloakroom-sized basins and, for very bijou spaces, corner WCs. The extensive range means anyone with lavatory pretentions will be happy here, yet the store maintains the reassuring, competent feel of an old-fashioned plumber’s merchants.

Needed to find a replacement tap for our bathroom basin, the salesman in Aston Matthews was very helpful and managed to find us a classic cross head tap that matches the ones on our existing bath. There is lots to see in the shop, both classic and modern, and I was told that as they keep everything in stock I could take my taps away with me, although they also deliver. Made a nice change to get some genuinely helpful service

Great choice and knowledgeable We have created an ensuite shower room as part of the master bedroom and bought the fittings from Aston Matthews. This is a large showroom with plenty of choice of glass shower screens, shower heads and shower trays. We also bought a wall hung toilet and basin plus taps. I found the staff to be really helpful. They took time to listen to what we had planned for the project and then recommended suitable fittings. The ensuite is now finished and it looks stunning, plus everything works perfectly. I would recommend Aston Matthews if you are refurbishing your bathroom, ensuite or cloakroom

Great choice and knowledgeable We created a shower room as an ensuite to our main bedroom. Aston Matthews is a big shop with plenty of choice of shower doors, shower head and tray. We also chose a wall hung basin and toilet plus taps. I found the staff to be really helpful, they took time to find out about my project and give sensible advice on the best bathroom fittings to choose. Everything is now in place and the ensuite looks fantastic and works well too. I would recommend Aston Matthews if you are doing up your bathroom, shower or cloakroom

Products missold and awful aftersales service: Purchased an above sink cabinet with lights triggered by sensor at the side of cabinet. We discussed the product and the location of the cabinet with one of the sales team who did not realise that these types of cabinets have to be fitted over 15cm from the wall. Light now on all the time and Aston Matthews have been only rude and dismissive on the phone- AFTER CONFESSING THAT THEY HAVE HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH THESE CABINETS AND SIMILAR TAPS WITH SENSORS. My advice is to shop elsewhere.
